Airline Agreements
Air Canada, Lufthansa and united airlines
This joint agreement provides UBC with discounts on some, but not all air fare types. For some destinations the least expensive fares types will not receive a discount as the airline/s has chosen not to discount it any further. However the least expensive fares have limited inventory and when those fares sell out, our contract fares insure that we are not paying a premium.
Travelling on Air Canada:
To obtain the least expensive fares, UBC recommends the purchase of Tango fares where available. While the Tango Plus fares include, free seat selection, additional Aeroplan qualifying personal miles and slightly lower change fees, the fares are increasing more expensive compared to Tango fares. UBC’s travel policy & procedure #83 does allow for the reimbursement of seat selection, however free seat selection may be obtained 24 hours prior to each leg of the itinerary, directly through the airlines website check-in service.
Advance check-in is always recommended.
Air Canada Pass Product:
There are several individual and corporate Air Canada (AC) flight pass products advertised on the AC website, however the purchase of these products directly with the airline does not comply with UBC Travel Policy #83.
Due to AC's administrative and pricing changes with their corporate pass program, UBC only has the "Latitude East-West Connector" pass available. Departments and travellers should be aware the Latitude pass fares are significantly more expensive that the AC Tango Fares.
WESTJET
Westjet’s agreement provides UBC with a discount off of all fare types. These discounts are only available through UBC’s contracted travel vendors.
Cathay pacific
This agreement provides UBC with discounts on some, but not all air fare types including business class. The least expensive fares types will not receive a discount as the airline has chosen not to discount it any further. However the least expensive fares have limited inventory and when those fares sell out, or when the traveller is authorized to travel in business class our contract fares insure that we are not paying a premium.
